A brotherhood, built from the ground up.

How LabMedia created the brand and website for Østvegen — a Norwegian Orthodox brotherhood for men — from name and identity to a site that turns visitors into members.

The challenge

A powerful idea with no way to be found.

Østvegen started as a conviction: Norwegian men are surrounded by people all day, yet have no one to lay things down with. The idea had depth — a thousand years of Orthodox tradition behind it — but no name, no identity, no website and no way for the men who needed it to ever find it.

The solution

A brand and a website that carry the weight.

We built the entire brand — name, identity, voice and messaging — then designed and developed a dark, atmospheric website that tells the heritage story, names the problem honestly, and gives every visitor one clear next step: join the open community.

What Østvegen replaced

Before the brand, there was nothing to join.

Before designing anything, we mapped what was missing. Each gap became something the brand and website had to fix.

No identity

A serious idea with no name, mark or voice people could recognise.

Scattered presence

A Discord link and word of mouth — nothing that explained what this actually is.

Generic church language

Messaging that sounded like everything else and reached no one in particular.

No journey

No path from curious visitor to member of the open community — people arrived and left.

No credibility layer

Nothing showing the history and depth behind the idea, so it read as a hobby project.

Invisible online

No site to rank, share or link to — the brotherhood simply didn't exist on the web.

The brand & platform

Everything a brotherhood needs to be found — and joined.

01

Name & identity

Østvegen — 'the road east' — rooted in the journey of the faith from Miklagard to Norway, with a mark and palette to match.

02

Voice & messaging

Direct, honest Norwegian copy that speaks to men carrying something heavy — no fluff, no preaching, no clichés.

03

The heritage story

A timeline from Olav the Holy to the Varangians in Miklagard, giving the brotherhood a thousand years of depth.

04

The website

A dark, atmospheric one-page experience — mountain imagery, serif typography and a clear path to join.

05

The membership ladder

Open community on Discord first, then Væringene — the closed circle — then physical gatherings, trips and liturgy.

06

1:1 conversations

A paid one-to-one conversation offer, positioned and priced as a natural next step for men who want to talk alone.

How we built it

From a conviction to a living community.

  1. 01

    Positioning

We framed Østvegen around one honest promise: for men with heavy things to carry — you don't walk alone.

  2. 02

    Brand identity

Name, mark, typography and a palette of deep navy, stone and amber — heritage without looking like a museum.

  3. 03

    Messaging & copy

Norwegian-language copy written to be read by the man it's about — including the real statistics on male loneliness.

  4. 04

    Website design & build

A fast, mobile-first one-page site with atmospheric photography and a single clear action: join the community.

  5. 05

    Community onboarding

Discord integration, the open community as the front door, and Væringene as the natural next step.

An old stone path through a dark Norwegian mountain landscape at dusk — the atmospheric visual style of the Østvegen brand
The result

A brand and a front door, launched together.

A brand with real weight

Østvegen looks and sounds like what it is — a serious brotherhood with deep roots, not another online group.

A website that converts curiosity into membership

Every section moves the reader one step closer to joining the open community — from the problem, to the heritage, to the door in.

A clear growth ladder

Open community, Væringene, physical gatherings and 1:1 conversations — each level gives members a reason to go deeper.

Built to be shared

A single memorable URL and a visual identity that members are proud to send to a friend who needs it.
